Thoughts from
Grandmaster
Darrell Cain about Martial Arts Training
Fellow Martial Arts Student:
I am and always will be a student even though I
might be teaching and helping other Martial Artist. The truth is
instructors Learn not just from their instructors but also from their
students and life in general. In your progress to learn Martial Arts
you will find the ethics, Discipline, confidence, health, and pursuit
of perfection will either become a way of life if you truly wish to
receive what the Martial Arts have to offer. Many styles over the
centuries have been associated with religious beliefs Such as Buddhism.
The fact is Martial Arts can be enhanced by personal Religious
convictions. Over the centuries many false perceptions have risen from
ignorance, mysteries have grown where simple truth and knowledge clear
the path to education. The knowledge of biomechanics & anatomy of
the human body will reinforce the foundation for any martial arts
training. Chi or Ki has a shroud of mystery about it; quite simply put
your body has different energy supplies, organic, chemical and
electrical. Of these the electrical produces fields and can manipulate
muscle and nervous systems.
Chi or Ki simply is the control of this fields and functions that is to
control your body’s energy. The basic foundations of martial arts
consist of Balance, Breathing, Focus, Ki, Techniques, Practice, and
Pursuit of knowledge and Health.
Lets look at balance, how do we improve balance? Start with good
posture, look at how your weight is distributed and what do you have to
do to be stable. In most stances and techniques a straight back will
create better balance. Breathing is so important it funnels power, it
settles & calms emotion, can control fear and pain. Focus is
essential, with out concentration on specifics how can you perfect
anything. Ki is a tool, which few martial artists really understand or
use. It will enhance much more than just offensive techniques.
Techniques are just more tools start by mastering one at a time,
Practice produces all kinds of benefits without practice perfection is
impossible. Pursuit of knowledge should be a full time endeavor and not
limited to martial arts or individual instructors, learn from everyone
anytime. Health is the path, which many of us stray from, don’t over
indulge in food, drink or damaging environments. Your ability to pursue
excellence is based on your health. Now that we have discussed a
foundation in martial arts you are faced With a fundamental discussion
to make a commitment to yourself and martial arts training or forget
it. The average student falls short of a meaningful pursuit in the
martial arts because of inpatients, it just doesn’t go as fast as they
want it to so they give up. My personal experience, it took Many years
to receive my 1st degree Black Belt, much longer than the so-called
average.
I now hold a 10th Degree Black Belt.
Life my friend is a marathon not a sprint.
